Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Edward Gorey; (illustrator). First Edition. Unpaginated. Pictorial boards matching the dustjacket. All three titles in a single volume: The Shrinking of Treehorn; Treehorn's Treasure; and Treehorn's Wish. Light wear on the corners of the dustjacket; ink mark on the lower edge of the text block; no interior markings. Illustrated throughout with line drawings by Edward Gorey. This tells the trials of Treehorn, a young boy with a talent for getting into and out of (and sometimes right back into) unusual situations. The Shrinking of Treehorn finds him growing down instead of growing up; in Treehorn's Treasure, he puts a creative spin on an adage spoken by his father; and a genie adds some befuddlement to the boy's birthday in Treehorn's Wish. In these tales, Treehorn's quandaries are complicated by preoccupied adults, his fickle friend Moshie, and, of course, comic books, coupons, and cereal box tops. Size: 12mo. Book.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First UK edition. Octavo. 60pp. Green, illustrated laminate boards in about fine condition, a couple of the corners very slightly knocked. Internally fine and without inscriptions. Parry Heide [1919-2011] was a successful American children's author. She wrote three books featuring the young Treehorn, one of which is now in development as an animated film. Gorey [1925-2000] is one of the most distinctive artist/illustrators of twentieth- century America. His dry humour was often tinged with cruelty and strongly influenced by the English 'Nonsense' tradition of Carroll and Lear. He and Heide were a good match. Her Treehorn is a child often ignored by the adult world who accepts strange developments as normal.
