Condition: UNSPECIFIED. First edition. Orange cloth backed in black, in a white dust jacket printed in black, red, orange and yellow; large 8vo. 366 pp. Presentation copy, inscribed: "for Jane [Cooper] after a very long time/with love/Muriel/February 1971". Offsetting on the rear endpages from the laid in full page New York Times piece on Hariot (mentioning Rukeyser's book). Hariot was a friend of Sir Walter Ralegh and Christopher Marlowe and seems to have been one of the greatest figures of his or anytime, but due to having published only one book mostly lost to history. Aside from the offsetting, a fine copy of a bulky book in a near fine dustjacket, with very light soiling and one worn tip. A wonderful copy in every way: a book seldom found in collectible condition let alone signed, and an excellent association copy between to very fine poets, close friends until Rukeyser's death in 1980. Both taught at Sarah Lawrence College.
