INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY JOHN THORN - Quarto [approximately 11 inches high by 8-1/2 inches wide], softcover bound in pictorial white wrappers. The binding is foxed & very lightly bumped with a stain to the front wrap & a chip to the tail of the spine. 87 & [1] pages. Illustrated in black & white. The contents are very good. Inscribed on the first page by the editor John Thorn: "For [----] / On behalf of my contributors / Best / John".John Thorn [b. 1947] is a sports historian, author, publisher and cultural commentator. Since March 2011 he has been the Official Baseball Historian for Major League Baseball.

Page lxvii lower blank margin and blank verso with extensive manuscript "Appendix" listing the sources of the illustrations, this copied from the 1801 edition. This signed "R.J.B February 1837". Bookplate on front pastedown and signature on frobnt free endpaper. Internally very clean.
