Product Description:One of the most feared weapons of World War II, the Tiger tank was a beast of a machine which dominated the battlefields of Europe with its astonishing size, speed and firepower, which continues to fascinate more than 70 years after it was first designed. Revealing its design and development history, Thomas Anderson draws upon original German archival material to tell the story of the birth of the Tiger. He then analyzes its success on the battlefield and the many modifications and variants that also came into play. Illustrated throughout with rare photographs and drawings, this is a unique history of what is easily the most famous tank ever produced.

Hardcover. Condition: NF. Dust Jacket Condition: NF. Photos, Diagrams, Tables Document Reproductions (illustrator). 1st. Many books have been written about Germany's Tiger tank of WW!I, but this impressive recent volume not only adds new imformation, but is also significant for a remarkable collection of photographs, many of which have not appeared in earlier works on this notable AFV. The Tiger was a feared opponent for most Allied tanks, with its heavy armour protection and its 88mm gun with exceptional powers of penentartion. Anderson's account folllows the Tiger from its concept to service use, covering also the numerous AFV versions using its basic structure. All the Tiger's good points, and its faults, are discussed by the author, a respected authority on tanks and armoured warfare. He has divided the life and times of the Tiger into eight chapters --- development, unit organisation, mobility, firepower, armour, combat, maintenance, under fire and conclusions. Also briefly noted and pictured is the planned replacement model for the original Tiger --- the Tiger Ausf B, an even more powerfully armed and armoured version that became operational in limited numbers toward the end of the war in Europe. Anderson has acheived much in this new book on this famous AFV by his use of interviews with Panzer veterans, of contemporary German instruction manuals and those issued to Russian tankers operating in opposition. For students of WWII armoured warfare the inclusion of so much new illustrations material alone makes this fine book a must for any collection on that topic. First edition from Osprey of 2013, 256 pages including index, illustrated throughout with b/w photos, including a number of double page speards, tables and diagrams, reproductions from instruction manuals. Black hard covers with impressed black spine titles are NF, black e/papers, double page photo title page, Internally NF, no inscriptions. Pictorial DJ is also NF and unclipped. This heavy book, 1.1kgs unpacked would require additional postage for international delivery.
