" After questioning Sir Michael he learns that the diamond dealer had sent a valuable item a carved model of an Indian temple by rail to London and was due there to sell it to a millionaire named Hiram Clench this afternoon. Spearing realises that the recent events were all designed to prevent Carruthers from making that afternoon meeting." - mark-hodder blakiana mini_bibliography, accessed August 2021. Other stories in this issue include "Cap'n Tibbs - Coastguard" by Horace J. Simpson; "Andy and the Redskins" by Edgar West; and "The Black Peril" by Cecil Hayter. NB: Content of "The Black Peril" story is offensive by today's standards, and includes lynching. "In this Stirring Story of Adventure, written by one of 'Pluck's' most popular authors, we have a picture of the great racial bitterness which the whites of the Southern States feel for the black men. However, this feeling is not shared by all the American people, because in many cities in the United States some of the most enlightened and energetic citizens are negroes, living in peace and friendship with the whites. Your Editor." - page 18.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Undated, the British Library date this 254 Part Penny Dreadful, as being published weekly from 1866-1868, here bound in two volumes, running to well over 2000 pages, this example originally from Lloyd & Co?s Circulating Library of 193 Fratton Road, Portsmouth with their bookplates. Bound in old plain binders cloth, a tale of rollicking high adventure with the Highwayman Dick Turpin and his horse ?Black Bess?, text printed in double columns with an illustration to the opening page of each part. The cloth bindings are in solid condition but the cloth to volume one is heavily discoloured, with marking to cloth on volume two, internally the cheap paper stock has browned throughout with noticeable strengthening repairs to a number of page edges (see pictures) one page has a clean long horizontal tear, and the last but one page in volume two has corner loss to one page affecting some words of the text (both are pictured) a few other small clean edge tears and noticeable creasing to a few pages else contents in good general condition. This is a heavy pair of books, around 3.5 kilos packed, overseas shipping costs may be higher than the basic standard one kilo quote.
