Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. A large format book depicting The Rolling Stones' triumphant tour of the United States of America in 1975, from rehearsals in Andy Warhol's territory of Montauk at the northern tip of Long Island, New York, through 27 concert locations from Baton Rouge to Buffalo. The short foreword by Mick Jagger praises Terry Southern, Annie Leibovitz and Christopher Sykes for grasping and showing what the experience of a big tour is like: "It's all what you might call fragmented, flashes, strobes, freeze-frames, images, bits of broken mirror, the way it was, here it is." There are many excellent photographs by Leibovitz and Sykes, including ones of two elephants hired by Jagger for the Stones' appearance in Memphis, plus a few of Elton John. Keith Richards: "I'm not working in no animal act. I worked with Elton, and that's enough!" There's also an unusual interlude featuring Andy Warhol, which results in the inclusion of four photographs by him of parts of Mick Jagger's anatomy and a portrait of Jagger by him (a pretty good portrait, it must be said). There's also what's described as a series of "drawnings" (drawings) by Charlie Watts. In short, there's a great deal packed in to the 143 pages of this book. It's largely still well-bound but it is getting tender in the gutter just before the title page, and between pages 142-143 and the spine is cracking to varying degrees between pages 116 and 121. If it cracks all the way between 120 and 121, then the last park of the book will be a loosened block. There's some minor spots of discolouration towards the outer edges of some pages in the book, these do not affect text or images, and generally the pages are bright and clean. The only defect that we can see affecting the photographs is a couple of faint creases down the middle of page 143. The cover is quite worn around the edges and at the corners, and there's a noticeable crease across the outer top corner of the back cover. All these factors have been taken into account in pricing. Please note that we will soon be listing quite a few original Rolling Stones' songbooks, in good or very good condition, from the 1960s.
