Light soiling on the boards and top edge, corners mildly bumped and rubbed, slight fraying on the spine ends. On both pastedowns is stamped "Gen. Geo. A. White Veterans Club, Inc." and the notation B-8. On the half-title page in grease(?) pencil "Presented to Service Men's Club by Mr. Carl ___, 1400 N. E. Broadway Portland Oregon, Feb.3- 1942." Binding is pliant but completely intact, text clean.

Satirical novel that includes some characters from his previous works, such as George Babbitt and Elmer Gantry. Dated 1928 on the copyright page, though Harcourt did not tend to note 'First' editions clearly in the 1920's. No dust jacket. 5-1/2" X 7-3/4", 275 pages. Blue cloth covered boards with the title within an orange field. Former owner's name written in fountain pen ink on the title page. But no further writing besides that. Age tanning areas on the flyleaf pages and paste-down pages. Cover boards show some areas of fading, some scuffs, tips of the corners are slightly bumped in, but light wear overall. Binding is tight. Not a library discard copy. Attached are some photos of the copy we have in our inventory.
