Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Illustrated by Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale. (illustrator). First Brickdale edition. 8vo. viii,(2),216pp. Brown cloth blocked on the spine and upper boards with titles in gilt and designs in dark brown. Illustrated endpapers. Twelve full color full page plates by Brickdale. A fine, bright copy. The dustwrapper repeats the designs of the binding, but in dark brown only. It is lightly toned, shows some wear and chipping at the edges. The original price on the spine was at some time neatly excised, but left the "$" intact, indicating this was a copy intended for the American market. Contains "Enid," "Vivien," "Elaine" and "Guinevere" from Tennyson's Idylls. The designs on the upper board incorporate King Arthur's shield and crest, both forms of the expected dragon rampant. Neat gift inscription on the reverse of the frontispiece leaf. Scarce in this condition; rare in dustwrapper. Howey F-209. Fine.
