Seller: Michael Napier, Kettering, United Kingdom
Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 16mo (16mo (15 x 9 cms). 24, xii, 272, 32. Red cloth; gilt lettering and armorial design on front cover; decorative gilt lettering on the spine. 24 pages of maps; 364 elevation (i.e. gradient) plans; index; etc. The ¿Contour¿ road books were first published in 1897, with many subsequent editions, some dated, some not. This one isn't. However, a leaf tipped in at page 179 refers to "the new road" from Walton-on-the-Hill at Liverpool to Irlam o' th' Height at Manchester. This road - now part of the A508 - was opened on 18 July 1934, according to Wikipedia, and it is on this basis that a publication date of c. 1934 is suggested for this volume. CONDITION: The spine dulled but the covers clean and bright. Joints and hinges intact. The first gathering a little loose; the text block otherwise firm and square, undamaged unmarked.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 16mo (15 x 8.5 cms). 24, xii, 265-512, 32. Red cloth; gilt lettering and armorial design on front cover; decorative gilt lettering on the spine. 24 pages of maps; 340 elevation (i.e. gradient) plans; index; etc. The ¿Contour¿ road books were first published in 1897, with many subsequent editions, some dated, some not. This one isn¿t. However, a leaf tipped in at page 449 refers to a "new coastal road" which, from the description, is clearly Thanet Way, built in the ¿early 1930s¿ according to Wikipedia (I have not been able to find a more exact date), and it is on this basis that a publication date of early 1930s is suggested for this volume. CONDITION: The spine dulled and the covers showing some wear. Some looseness between the gatherings, particularly at the front of the book. The text block nevertheless square and reasonably firm, the leaves undamaged and unmarked.
