- Unfortunately, the front illustrated envelope is missing. Otherwise, this vol. is lightly dog-eared, the back cover wrinkly, but on the whole clean and handsome. It was a modest book, corresponding to the times of the war, printed on poor paper and in a small format - but it was an immediate success. The "Struwwelhitler" by Robert and Philip Spence appeared in 1941. It was their contribution to the "Daily Sketch War Relief Fund", which supported the British troops and the victims of the German air war. The book experienced several editions at short intervals. A small detail was changed from the second edition: In the first edition, the Struwwelhitler still wearing two armbands, presumably shortly before printing the swastika of an armband was etched out of the cliché. "The book is an attempt of 1941, when England alone faced the overpowering empire, dominating almost all of Europe, to ridicule Hitler and his regime." Although this ridiculousness kills far less often than one might think, it creates self-confidence and not only helps to endure the horrors of war, but also to gain new confidence.
