Famous English illustrator that came to prominence after World War II. Since 1946 Searle has worked non-stop illustrating over forth books, designing sets and costumes for films, and making his own cartoon film John Gilpin. He has worked for The New Yorker, travelling widely on feature stories in the United States and Europe. In 1960 the National Cartoonist Society of America voted Searle Cartoonist of the Year and presented him with the Reuben Award, the first time this has been given to a foreign artist. Inside is unmarked, crisp, with only hints of toning. DJ is colorful with no edge wear and just a couple of rubbing/toning spots. Small chip to one tip on ffep. Overall a good copy of a fairly scarce Searle book.
