No other Ulster-set novel has sold so many copies as this, and this edition adds The Souls of Poor Folk, gratis. This novel investigates the author's childhood and youth, and introduces the reader also to his mother, Anna. Fine woodcut engraving of Dr. Alexander Irvine, by John Luke, is tipped in at frontis. The author's reminiscences of his mother and father, trying to raise 12 children in poverty in Ireland in the middle part of the 20th century, and of the grace in which his mother coped with the vicissitudes of life. The second book is further reminiscences of the author's early life. Rubbing of the book edges and panels with some bumping of the corners. Tanning of the text block edges which also shows some marks. Age toning of the pages.
