Soft Cover. Condition: Very Good - Collectible. First Edition, First Printing. Text/BRAND NEW, showing margin discoloration; Stated First Printing. Softcover/VG; strong w/light soiling & discoloration to surfaces. Green text edges. Cold War espionage. Autobiography of double agent Harold Adrian Russell "Kim" Philby (1912 - 1988), high-ranking member of British intelligence who was simultaneously an operative of NKVD and KGB until publically defecting to the Soviet Union in 1963 when revealed to be a member of the spy ring known as the Cambridge Five (along with Donald Maclean, Guy Burgess, Anthony Blunt, and one other) in the service of the USSR. In his Introduction, Graham Greene (1904 - 1981), Philby's close friend, who wrote the screenplay of The Third Man (1983, reputably in 3 days) using Philby as a model for Harry Lime, suggests this memoir ought to be sub-titled "The Spy as a Craftsman". John le Carré (1931 -), whose career as a British intelligence officer ended with Philby's betrayal of his cover to Russia, depicts and analysizes Philby as Bill Haydon, the upper-class traitor, in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (1974).
