Hard cover dust wrapper, 252pp, b&w plates. Light wear to dw/board edges other than a little creasing at top of front and rear dw edge edges; a very good copy. At the opening of WWI, the Germans had just one capital ship, the Goeben, escorted by the light cruiser Breslau, in the Mediterranean. These ships eluded the French Navy and the British Mediterranean Fleet to reach the Dardanelles. Once there, the Germans pushed Turkey into the war and with the subsequent closing of Dardanelles, Russia was cut off. Drawing on German, French and British sources, the author shows that the failure to bring to Goeben to action was due as much to the French as the British (who previously had borne the blame alone).
