Book
Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 'I would have a poet able bodied, fond of talking, a reader of the newspapers, capable of pity and laughter, informed in economics, appreciative of women, involved in personal relationships, actively interested in politics, susceptible to physical impressions.'Louis MacNeice's prescription is designed to look ordinary, rather than esoteric, but very little poetry can claim to meet these specifications, stringent in their very wideness. MacNeice's work matches the world he famously described as 'incorrigibly plural'. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hardback. Condition: Very Good Plus. Second Impression. This copy is very good plus condition bound in pale blue paper covered boards with red titling to the spine. This copy has a small split to the head of the spine. The unclipped dustwrapper has some closed tear and is a trifle dusty so best described as very good plus condition International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. Where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased charges will be quoted. Louis MacNeice may be a minor poet, but he deserves to be a lot more popular than he actually is. MacNeice was born in Northern Ireland in 1907, but he spent most of his life in England; he was a friend of W.H.Auden and Stephen Spender, and his poetry can be compared to theirs. However, MacNeice remained a more critical and intellectual spirit, and at the same time his poetry was more ambitious in scope. This does not mean that his works are any less accessible than Auden's, quite the contrary. MacNeice's poetry opens up large vistas, it is full of the phrases and sounds and details of his time. This copy is from the library of actress, author and playwright Gwen Cherrell (1926 - 2019) Ref K7.
