Very minor softening to the corners of boards Dustjacket condition is also Very Good. Just some minor wear to the spine head and tail and a little shelf wear along the top edge. First impression (1 in number line). From the dustwrapper front flap. The lifelines of these people and others comic and sad by turns in true Aldiss fashion - converge towards the finality of an IRA bomb episode in Great Yarmouth. It's a small bomb in a small hotel: but the conceptual canvass of Remembrance Day is a large one. Aldiss is one of the finest writers of prose in this country, always injecting fresh energy and surprise into his sentences. Brilliantly vivid, rich and generous.'.

Cloth Bound. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. First American edition, first impression. Original blue paper-covered boards, lettered silver gilt on spine. In original dust-wrapper. Very fine/near mint in d/w that has a touch of fading to the title lettering on spine but is else very fine/near mint. Not price clipped and displaying the original price of $21.95 on inner front flap. With an extraordinary inscription by Brian Aldiss which occupies the whole of the front and rear free endpapers. The inscription is in the form of a letter addressed to "the unknown purchaser of this book" and begins "the writer of this book has been in his time a hero and exemplar to some and although now in his old age and facing neglect hopes still to maintain his integrity in writing what he considers truthful as well as merely entertaining". It goes on to talk about how some of his closest relatives had become extremely poor and that "the incident of the enforced ban of a credit card being taken from their lives". He concludes the opening part of his letter by saying that society "seethes with inequalities" and signs and dates it 2003. The concluding part written on the rear endpaper reads "so, you have read - or let us assume you have read - this novel. Has it affected any change in your feelings towards yourself or your fellow citizens or those citizens who live elsewhere on the globe? Do you find in this book a resemblance to any other books: for instance Thornton Wilder's The Bridge of San Luis Rey? Do you believe that novels should be written (and possibly read) with an intense desire to communicate something incommunicable, or do you imagine that writers pour out their inner convictions for fun?" He has signed again on the rear free endpaper. A fascinating and unique copy. Inscribed by Author(s).
