Nach der Promotion 1874 wandte er sich unter dem Einfluß Franz Brentanos der Philosophie zu und habilitierte sich 1878 mit Hume-Studien. 1882 wurde er Prof. in Graz. Ausgehend von Brentanos Auffassung von der Psychologie als philosophischer Fundamentalwissenschaft, widmete sich Meinong vor allem psychologischen Fragestellungen. 1894 begründete er in Graz das erste psychologische Laboratorium Österreichs. In Anlehnung an Brentanos Intentionalitätsbegriff entwickelte Meinong 1899-1916 seine Gegenstandstheorie, die den Gegenstand sowohl für sich als auch hinsichtlich seines Erfaßtwerdens durch das Subjekt betrachtet. - Umschlag m.
