Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Rare 2012 issued autobiography of the highly telented F1 ans sports car driver Tony Brooks who team mate Stirling Moss always rated as "the best unknown driver ever" because Brooks mild manner and politeness left him rather in the shade compared to contemporary Ebglish F1 rivals, the enormously ebulliant and famous Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn. Brooks, as a novice, was the first English driver to win an international GP in an English car (Connaught) for decades in 1955, was quickly signed for BRM, the Vanwall where he won several Grands Prix as team mate to Moss, moved to Ferrari where he narrowly lost the world title to Jack Brabham , finally acting as team mate to the emerging star Graham Hill ( another famously ebulliant character). Brooks raced sports cars thoughtout this time, winning international events for Aston Martin and Ferrari in what most people consider two of the most charismatic racing cars ever, the DBR1 and the Testa Rossa. Elegantly written and full of honest opinions about the many characters whom he raced with, against and for in his career. 276 large pages, lot of glorious period photos throughout. This one has some damage around the edged of the cover (not the jacket) where it looks like something has nibbled along the top and the a lesser degree the bottom edges of the cover boards and down the edged of the inner cover fly leaves. Only really understandable by checking the photos. This is a very sought after book so this has affected it's value considerably and it's offered here at way below the price of a fine condition example.
