Nach einem einjährigen Aufenthalt in Cambridge kehrte er 1993 in die Vereinigten Staaten zurück und nahm eine Lehrtätigkeit an der University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign an und veröffentlichte fünf weitere Romane.
