Seller: C. Arden (Bookseller) ABA, Hay-on-Wye, United Kingdom
pp.224 with b/w. photos. 8vo. Hardback. With handwritten letter to Col. Kettlewell, East Harptree from the author, F.N. Howes dated 01.01.50. Contents fine. Original green cloth boards in thor. vg. condition. A unique copy of this classic work. F.N. Howes letter is a reply to Col. Kettlewell (of Harptree Hoard fame). Initially it discusses the propagation and cultivation of Lime trees about which Howes wrote (in Plants and Beekeeping that As a honey producer the lime or linden is second only to clover in the British Isles. While the clovers are considered to account for 75 percent of the total quantity of honey produced, the lime supplies the greater part of the remainder. He then goes on to reply to Kettlewell whom had told Howes about his large honey crops in 1948 and the absence of honey dew in his honey. This absence was of great interest to Howes.
