Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. [Date from the copyright page.] First Printing. Frontispiece and a Drawing by Gustave Courbet, Acknowledgments, Epilogue, Bibliography, Index; [x], 292 pages. The original dark-blue cloth is excellent, except for a small, shallow pressure mark on the upper board; gilt lettering on the spine is as bright as if just issued. The interior is pristine---bright, crisp, and completely clean: a lovely copy, despite a few freckles on the top edge. The original pictorial dustjacket has taken all the wear: there is chipping at the edges and a wrinkle on the back panel, though all text remains legible. A bookseller's label has been placed over the price on the front flap. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] "The significance of Proudhon, one of the important French social theoreticians of the nineteenth century, reaches forward into our own day, when his massive distrust of the state and his teaching of the need for world federation take on a new importance in a world that is threatened by the explosive rivalries of giant nationalistic states." (Gleaned from the flap.) As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
