5 sheets, each 30 x 76 cm. (12 x 30 inches). Map only 13 x 360 cm (5.2 x 142.5 inches). A facsimile of Wade's 1845 original with many added notes, illustrations, and photographs showing points of interest and miles from New York City, with descriptive and historical text and maps on versos. This edition by the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, a primary force behind the cleanup of the Hudson River was edited by Carolyn Brooks and designed by Nora Porter. Surprisingly OCLC locates only five institutional holdings: NYPL, NYSL, NYSDEC, Syracuse Univ., & Univ. Minn. A near fine copy, two tiny marginal repairs to edge of one sheet. Edition by Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
Condition: Fine. "In 1845, New York engraver William Wade created a ten-foot long panorama illustrating both sides of the Hudson River between Albany and New York City. The following year this remarkably detailed pictorial record was published as a pocket-sized folding map. Sold in plain and colored versions, the panorama aided travelers in identifying natural features, landings and architectural landmarks along the 138-mile route." [New York Public Library]. This is a lovely re-issue of Wade's iconic panorama, published in five sheets in 1979 by the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. The ship is part of a broader non-profit organization established a decade prior by folk singer Pete Seeger. Its mission is to protect the Hudson River and surrounding areas through conservation efforts and public education. This publication is an excellent example - updating Wade's work to excite and engage a modern audience. To each sheet have been added numerous captioned photographs, reflecting the incredible developments made along the river in the preceding 134 years. Source: New York Public Library" Sheet Width (in) 29.5 Sheet Height (in) 11.75 Condition Description "Complete set of five sheets in very good to near fine. Two sheets have small tears (about 2") confined to the upper margin and repaired with archival tape on the verso.".

Hardcover. Black cloth gilt embossed case covers, Map begins as the front pastedown to the inside cover, then is folded in a fashion unretated to the joints of the six plates that make up the whole. Colored edition, first edition, Very rare. Sold with another copy of the same edition lacking the final 2 feet of the map, could be completed using the whole as a copy and sold as such. A magnificent copy of the complete map, and a very serviceable copy of the incomplete one. Both are the same edition, being the first edition. Quite rare individually, unheard of as a set that can be compared and studied side by side. The map, which starts in East Albany and ends at Brooklyn and Jersey City. There are mile markers and town names on both sides of the river. Both these copies are hand-colored, and exhibit subtle differences in that process. There is no descriptive text with this edition, as there is with the 2nd edition of 1846. VG, typical soiling and age-toning, folds are strong overall on both copies. The case for the incomplete copy is more decorated around the borders. Both cases broken at hinge.
