Head of spine and top edge of boards lightly chipped (possible a mouse snack); corners lightly bumped; cloth a little dust-soiled. Contemporary ownership signature (ink) and bibliographic notes (pencil) on FFEP; "Boswell" library bookplate on front-pastedown (inviting a number, but left blank); waterstain along top edge and at bottom corner of frontispiece portrait; some light foxing throughout.
