This is the first printing after the Limited First Edition, in beautiful green leather, with gilt lettering of title, author, and Library imprint. Hardy's only writing for a youthful audience, written in 1883, designed for the "Youth's Companion" magazine, it went unpublished until 1892-93, when it was serialized in the "Household". Finally published 60 years later in book form. Introduction by Richard L. Purdy; numerous illustrated ink drawings. 110 pages. Withdrawn from library, with typical markings on fly leaf front and back. Book is in very good condition, slight shelf wear on edges, spine, pages 5-9 have had folded corner, pages are yellowing; top edge patterning is more faded than side and bottom, but still visible. A great find.
