Seller: Seacoast Books, Portsmouth, NH, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Large-format, 10 1/2" x 14 3/8", pictorial paste-on over green buckram, unpaginated. A binding much different than the ordinary version (a sturdy library binding with a 9 3/4" x 14" paste-on plate to front board). No date, just 'all rights reserved, Charles Scribner's Sons' on reverse of title page. However, the book was printed in the UK by W.S. Cowell, Ltd. of Ipswich and London. Believed to be 1938. Endpapers have a faint decorative design and the 3rd & 4th endpapers have a pawprint design, if these are any clues as to issue date. This copy is an ex-library copy but it has only one library mark, a call number written in the upper left of the front plate; no library stamps or marks within the book (though the rear pastedown has glue remnants of the library pocket). The interior pages are in pretty nice condition (see all photos enlarged) with most free of condition issues (some have small taped tears at the bottom edge, a few have a chip at an edge), with only light finger soiling at the leading edge of most. The front endpapers have some tears, with the ffep having a 2"x3" loss at the lower inner corner and there is a closed tear along the gutter side of the title page. Externally good with only rubbing to edges, scattered soiling and foxing. Still, not a bad copy of this scarce title. Again, see photos enlarged.
