Book First Edition
Octavo, cloth. First edition. A near-future catastrophe novel of the Earth nearly destroyed by earthquakes when scientists learn to tap the power of the planet's electromagnetic field to solve the energy crisis. "But, after a major quake destroys much of the world, a new band of black witches arises -- the Angels of Lucifer, who are determined to take over Whitehall and (with government aid) to wipe out the white coven in Wales. Ultimately, therefore, young Moira, the high priestess of the white coven, must take on Karen, the black priestess, in a duel of evil blood sacrifice at Stonehenge. (Mother Earth herself joins in this melee, and the astral plane reels with the shocks.) Author Farrar is identified as a practicing witch, and the ritual goings-on here are rather less lurid than in most coven-aramas (a human sacrifice or two notwithstanding); the general tone too is fairly serious, quiet, even drily British/realistic. So fans of demonic hoopla may be disappointed while most readers who might appreciate Farrar's dutifully detailed futurism will probably be turned off by the witchery. An odd amalgam, then, which may find a certain, odd audience" (Kirkus Reviews). A fine copy in fine dust jacket with just a touch of rubbing at edges. (#169587).
