He published several other works in obstetrics and attracted students from all over Europe. He is remembered for his work involving breech maneuvers and Caesarean sections. Quarta edizione, riveduta e corretta, di uno dei più importanti testi di ostetricia del secolo decimottavo, descrivgente un nuovo tipo di forcipe ideato dallo stesso Levret; chief contribution to obstetrics, of which there were many, was the introduction of the pelvic or maternal curve of the forceps blades (Thoms, p. 120). (Castiglioni). Blake, 270. Bella legatura coeva in piena pelle marmorizzata con titoli e ricchi fregi in oro al dorso. Qualche strofinatura e leggero difetto alle cerniere. Dorso a 5 nervi. "In January of 1747 André Levret presented to the Royal Academy of Surgery of Paris, a new curved forceps contrived for disengaging the fetal head 'empacted in the pelvis.' In his treatise Observations sur les causes. Levret clearly proved the utility of the pelvic curve and showed how impossible it is to affix straight forceps and to make traction that will be of advantage unless the head is low" (Cutter & Viets, Short History of Midwifery, p. 63; see also pp. 89-90).
