Erste Ausgabe dieser klassischen Schrift. - "Remak was one of the greatest neurocytologists and his published works have withstood the test of time and scientific examination. His unsurpassed ability as a microscopist is well demonstrated in this doctoral thesis, written in Latin when he was only twenty-three years of age. In it he presented one of the fundamental truths of neurohistology by distinguishing between the gray postganglionic nerve fibers (Remark's fibers) and the white cerebrospinal nerves. He also demonstrated that the autonomic ganglia are the axones of nerve cells and are continuous with cells within the spinal cord. These axones were later called axis cylinders by Purkinje" (Heirs). - Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt. Oberer Rand stellenweise mit schwachem kleinen Fleck, sonst gut erhalten. - Garrison-Morton 1262; Waller 7877; Heirs of Hippocrates 1818.

Berlin, Reimer, 1838, 8°, VI, 41, (1) pp., 2 Taf. mit 30 Abbildungen, orig. Broschur. Professor.-cf. Pagel, p.1361 The epoch making thesis on microscopic neuro-anatomy in which Remaks showed that peripheral nerve fibres were continuous with cells in the spinal cord and described non-medullated nerves for the first time. Remak, the famous neurologist, was the first Jewish lecturer in Germany, this by special permission of Friedr. Wilhelm IV. One of the rarest of the 19th century medical classics.
