First Edition Signed
SIGNED hardcover first edition - First printing. Detailed story of the historic Clear Creek narrow gauge; begun in 1872, this railroad was the first narrow gauge line to penetrate directly into the Colorado Rockies. Since the cost of construction was only $20,000 a mile (vs $90,000 for a standard railroad), it provided an incentive for the building of other narrow gauge lines throughout the country. Large format, profusely illustrated with black and white photographs and with 3 color plates at the beginning of the book, and a color painting on the table of contents page. Although there are several maps scattered throughout the book, the final section consists of rosters, station lists and more maps. Index. 223 pp. Illustrated endpapers. SIGNED by the author (one of the founders of the Colorado Railroad Museum, an avid antique auto enthusiast as well as a railroad buff, and a graduate of Williams College. Uncommon signed. Fine in navy blue cloth with silver lettering, in very good dust jacket.
