[Espionage novel] FIRST PAPERBACK PRINTING. A paperback original; published simultaneously with the Cape hardcover edition. Octavo (17 x 11cm), pp.221; [1], blank; [2] advertisement, in softcovers illustrated with movie artwork priced at 85p. Minor wear, gentle reading crease to spine. Near fine. A common book, but most are well used and faded to spine. Scarce thus. This was written under licence from Ian Fleming's copyright holders Glidrose Publications- when Fleming sold the film rights to his novels he would not consent to this title and 'The Spy Who Loved Me' being filmed as written; 'The Spy Who Loved Me' was an experimental novel (with female perspective and narrative), and 'Moonraker' was somewhat dated. Therefore both would need re-writing and Christopher Wood was brought in by director Lewis Gilbert to produce a screenplay and subsequent novel for the two titles. Gilbert: Ian Fleming The Bibliography, pp.112, 612.

Roger Moore stars in his fourth role as the British secret agent, here working to to foil a criminal enterprise involving the theft of space rockets. Nominated for an Academy Award. Set in England, the United States, Italy, Brazil, and outer space, shot on location in England, Argentina, Brazil, France, Italy, the United States, and Guatemala. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. CHRISTOPHER WOOD - JAMES BOND AND MOONRAKER, published by UK Jonathan Cape, copyright 1968, First Printing (states "First Published 1979" at top of copyright page with no reference to subsequent printings - there never was a 2nd printing), white endpapers, black boards with gold gilt lettering on spine, 3.95p net in UK only price on DJ front flap. DUE TO THE FAIRLY RADICAL CHANGE FROM FLEMING'S ORIGINAL STORY, JONATHAN CAPE HIRED THE MOVIE SCREENWRITER TO ADAPT HIS SCREENPLAY INTO A NOVEL, IT WAS ONLY SOLD IN HARDCOVER IN THE U.K. AND MOST COPIES WENT TO LIBRARIES, MAKING THIS A VERY DIFFICULT BOOK TO FIND. Book has several creased page corners, hint of age darkening/dust soiling to outer page edges (no foxing), no former ownership markings or used bookstore stamps/stickers inside, generally clean endpapers with no scotch tape marks or significant discoloration, no internal hinge splitting, no wear to board edges, corners or spine tips (shelf rubbing to spine tips only), no bumped board corner, no soiling/markings to boards, no wear/oxidizing to gilt spine lettering. Dust Jacket has no chipping, tearing or creasing, virtually no wear to spine tips, no wear to front flap crease (just at flap crease corners), no wear to left/right on spine, no edge wear, no spine sun fading, no foxing to panels or spine, no dust rubbing to panels or spine, tiny discoloration spot on spine otherwise no soiling/staining to panels or spine. Overall a VG+/FINE- book in VG+/FINE- condition dust jacket (not price clipped) of an Ian Fleming related James Bond related 1st UK printing hardcover book. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Ian Fleming James Bond 1st printing hardcover appearances up for sale.
