One of the longest novels ever published, taking the author twenty years to complete and arriving at the editor's office on 3,449 typescript pages. According to the rear jacket panel at one point seven suitcases containing the manuscript went missing at the Gare Lazare in Paris but were eventually "retrieved by seven men from Cook's with seven wheelbarrows." This begs the question: Exactly how big were these suitcases?.

This Very Good+ condition book is firmly bound with some softening of tips and at the top and bottom of the spine. The $10.95 price is intact on the front flap of the Very Good condition dust jacket.
