Also laid in, a one-page typed letter signed by the new owner of the Limited Editions Club Sidney Shiff on Club letterhead addressed to Morris Jacobs on September 18, 1984. Shiff provides some background into the production of this particular volume, noting that the artist Jose Luis Cuevas flew to New York from Mexico to prepare the plates, working on them for two weeks and that the "printing of the etching was a difficult painstaking process which took over three months to complete." Shiff goes on to add that the LEC has "returned to the tradition of printing the letter by letterpress, and it is printed on the mold made paper imported from Italy specially for 'The Metamorphosis.'".
