Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. First UK edition published as part of the Standard Edition of the works of André Gide in 1953. Translated by Justin O'Brien. Both works were originally published in France in the 1890s. There is slight edge rubbing to the boards and there is a little browning to the page edges with one small spot to the top edges and a small stain to the bottom edges. There is light spotting and some browning to the endpapers. Previous owner's name and date in pen to the reverse of the front free endpaper but the pages are otherwise clean and unmarked. The jacket has a heavily darkened spine which has some edge rubbing and surface wear and light chipping at the top and bottom. Browning to the edges of the front and rear panels with spotting to the reverse and slight chipping to the corners. First printing.
Condition: Fine. Near fine (light fading and light wear to spine). Also, drawing of Kerouac by David Levine.
