Front cover depicts sepia toned photograph of Neruda at his desk (bewhind a hammer-shape cutout by Jim Dine). Twenty-seven pages of poetry by Neruda, in Spanish and English, translated by Alistair Reid side-by-side. There is a print of a signed note in English - in Neruda's handwriting - to Ted Hughes, on back cover. There is a half-inch crease to front upper foredge (at base of 'hammer claw' cut-out), a very small stain to bottom, right corner of Neruda photograph page (front and back), and a slight separation of pages at spine near forepart of book. Even with the aforementioned defects, the book still has a newness about it and is aesthetically appealing. Next day shipping guaranteed.

The publishers have included a printed inscription on the back of the rear end paper in black ink and have copied this facsimile text on the rear panel of the dust jacket in gilt.
