Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 203 pages (complete). A jovial, amiable account of a Baltic cruise on the Tantallon Castle in 1895. The frontispage has a presentation inscription to the Riversdale Public Library (in the then Cape Colony) by the owners of the Tantallon Castle, The Castle Mail Packets Company in 1899. Two years later the ship was to run aground and be wrecked on the shores of Robben Island off of Cape Town. A charming small book with gilt printing on the cover and spine. The cover has been knocked about and is scuffed and worn. Yet, it is resolute, sturdy and sound. The gold trim to the pagetrims is bright and sure. Inside, the contents are generally foxed. The inside front cover has the remnants of the Riversdale Library catalogue label. The pages are particularly genial and content. The illustration plate at page 92 is loose and is included. The pages are clear, companionable and assured from a much happier voyage. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
