Book
Cloth. Condition: Good. A chronicle of the life and letters of Thomas Huxley by his son Leonard Huxley. 1901 American edition from 1900 original. From the Preface of the English Edition: "My father's life was one of so many interests, and his work was at all times so diversified, that to follow each thread separately, as if he had been engaged on that alone for a time, would be to give a false impression of his activity and the peculiar character of his labours. All through his active career he was equally busy with research into nature, with studies in philosophy, with teaching and administrative work. The real measure of his energy can only be found when all these are considered together. Without this there can be no conception of the limitations imposed upon him in his chosen life's work. The mere amount of his research is greatly magnified by the smallness of the time allowed for it." Vol. I. Huxley's life and letters 1825-1878. 539 pages. Vol. II. - his life and letters 1879-1895. 541 pages. Brown cloth bindings with gold gilt lettering on front covers and spines. Gold gilt top edges. Uncut side and bottom edges. Former owner's name, city, state, and 1905 date on front endpapers.Scuffing/minor damage to top and bottom of spines. Vol. I: some play in rear cover with corresponding cracking to endpaper at spine interior. Vol. II: closed tear to pages 23-24 that runs the horizontal length of page, elsewise a very good, bright, clean collector/scholar-worthy set! FRA4.
