    First Edition. LADY BOUNTIFUL, Press Publishing / Saalfield, 1916 / 1917, first edition, two closed tears to the fore edge margin of the covers and the pages, else a just about vg copy in full color pictorial wraps. Gene Carr was one of the most active early New York City artists in the young field of comic strips. He was doing newspaper cartoons by age 15 and two years later was working for the William Randolph Hearst papers. Carr is considered a pioneer of the use of sequential panels. He did cartoons for the New York Herald, New York World and New York Evening Journal. Carr's Lady Bountiful debuted in 1902 and is said to be the first female newspaper cartoon protagonist.
