The book is in reasonably good condition, normal wear and marks apply consistent with use and age. Hardback corners curled slighty worn, a few loose pages in the middle of the book, very few foxing marks, otherwise all pictures are in good condition. 96 pages, tissue papers cover the gorgeous colour illustrations. Please note this is a large heavy book therefore postage/shipping may increase from listed price depending on final destination. Overall this is a fabulous book, well put together and should be preserved for future generations.

Most attractive green binding with gilt titles to spine & gilt titles with ornate impressed gilt ornamentation to front, plain rears. Light wear with small creases & slight rubs to spine-ends, light wear with small light rubs to corenrs, tiny bumps to bottom corners of Vol II. Very slight foxing to end-papers Vol. I & to page-edges, page-edges are a little yellow. The occasional light blotching patches to rear & edges of a few plates, otherwise text & photos in b/w with some colour are in clean & very nice condition. A most attractive set.

Arguably the finest work of the two pioneers of wildlife photography. Cherry Kearton's photographs are perfectly complemented by brother Richard's text. 'It is confidently believed that the work will form the finest gallery of sun pictures of wild birds and beasts, taken amidst their natural surroundings, ever published in this or any other country' (Preface). To this day, the Royal Geographical Society's Kearton Medal is awarded for outstanding work in the field of natural history. Uncommon in this condition.

A very good matching set. ** "Richard Kearton FZS, FRPS (2 January 1862 8 February 1928) and Cherry Kearton (8 July 1871 27 September 1940), brothers, were a pair of British naturalists and some of the world's earliest wildlife photographers. They developed innovative methods to photograph animals in the wild and in 1895 published the first natural history book to be entirely illustrated by wild photographs. Richard was a made a Fellow of the Zoological Society of London and Royal Photographic Society. Cherry later became a wildlife and news filmmaker, and friend to Theodore Roosevelt.
