As a British Army Officer on leave in Dublin in April 1916, he was an eyewitness of the Easter Rising. He here gives a first-hand account of the "rebellion". He eventually became a pacifist and a sympathiser of Sinn Fein. His British commanding officer during the First World War, wrote of him, (he has) developed eccentric views on the ethics of war & duties of the individual in war. His heart is not in his work. He cannot be recommended for promotion". This copy of his book is inscribed by him on the title page (please see image) and is in very good condition. The dust jacket is not price-clipped and is now protected in a removable film sleeve. Octavo. 335 pages. Sparsely illustrated from photographs.
