Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. pp. xxv, 188 + Frontis and map. 8vo. Original full cloth binding. Original priced dust jacket, rubbed and worn. Hardbound. Very good. On the 4th of July, 1791, a ten year-old boy, Oliver M. Spencer left his home to travel down river to Fort Washington, now Cincinnati, to celebrate the holiday. Returning home with another boy, they traveled first by canoe, and then on foot. After a short time, the party was set upon by Indians and Spencer soon found himself a captive. For several days, he was taken across country but treated with some kindness. After an attempted escape, he was recaptured when tempted by a patch of raspberries. On the 13th of July, the group reached the junction of the Auglaize and Maumee rivers_the site of Fort Defiance_where he was adopted into an Indian Family. He was later ransomed and ultimately reached relatives in New Jersey and finally his family in Columbia, on the Ohio River. The story was first told forty years after the events, in a piece written for publication in the Western Christian Advocate in 1834. Spencer had become a Methodist Episcopal minister and lived in Cincinnati. LOC W17 0.0.

It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers.
