John Howard's life as laid out in this book was mostly in the late 1700s in the UK where he inherited wealth allowing him to accept positions, one of which was the sheriff Bedfordshire which led him to begin working for better conditions for incarcerated persons. Prison conditions at home and abroad became his life's passion until his death. A clean very presentable copy.
