Book
Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This book is for our 'inner housewife', desperate to learn what housewives everywhere used to know instinctively - how to look after our home well and efficiently, with minimum fuss. Housewifery may be a dying vocation, but generations of wifely wisdom must not be allowed to disappear with it. We need to redefine what it means to be a housewife, for the sake of our homes and for the sake of our sanity. We have become dependent on those 5-in-1 chemical cleaners; we can't seem to wield a Hoover any more; doing the laundry takes days out of our week. We are too busy! We think housework is boring! We are at crisis point! Determined to help us to regain control, Rachel Simhon has compiled this manual on everything we need to know about looking after the home. She reveals how to descale a kettle, polish silver, get scratches off glasses, minimise ironing, store food in the fridge, protect photographs from fading and fold a fitted sheet, and explains how to choose a tumble dryer, manage a room full of children's belongings, sort a week's worth of family laundry and even organise a stress-free spring clean. And she answers, once and for all, countless questions such as what really gets red wine out of a carpet, why mattresses become lumpy over time and how to put an end to bathroom mould. Quarter-bound with an elegant Fifties-inspired two-colour design and illustrations, The Housewife's Handbook is the definitive guide to caring for the home. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 7th printing. Hardcover, black cloth with gilt lettering to front cover and spine, 6-1/4" tall, 240 pp. Ink scribble to front endpaper and p. 193, else very good indeed. Detailed accounts of sexual encounters, and one woman's goal of reaching orgasm, hide the fact that this is a politically feminist book, which includes a chapter detailing the logical reasons abortion should be legal. The book landed the publisher Ralph Ginzburg in jail, but was it for obscenity or its political (and maybe especially pro-choice) views?.

Prints the full text of the introduction by Albert Ellis in order to promote the seventh printing of Rey Anthony's book *The Housewife's Handbook on Selective Promiscuity.* The book was a pseudonymously written frank account of the author's discovery of her own sexuality and the ways that she accommodated it. This title caused a sensation and it was later reviewed by the Supreme Court as part of their investigation into the publishing activities of Ralph Ginzburg (who later acquired the copyright to this work in 1966) which resulted in his eventually serving six months in prison. In the introduction to a 2001 interview with Ellis in *Psychology Today*, Robert Epstein writes, "Given these techniques [REBT] have now become mainstream, it's safe to say that no individualâ "not even Freud himselfâ "has had a greater impact on modern psychotherapy." *OCLC* locates no copies.
