Clean, sturdy, and quite presentable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. (7 x 4.45 x 1.75 inches). 635 pages. Language: English. Weight: 13.5 ounces. Mass Market Paperback. I've read many books on the Hundred Years War, mostly from an English perspective. As a fictional account, this is first rate. What is especially good is the way Ms Curran is able to convey to the reader the confusion, frustration, and despair of not only the principals - William de la Pole, Thomas Chaucer, John of Bedford and others - but those same sentiments in the lesser characters such as Herald Secret and William Paston. How does one continue to fight for something that is impossible - the English conquest of France? Ms Curran recently wrote a biography of William de la Pole (earl, later Duke of Suffolk) entitled "The English Friend." It is very sympathetic to a much villified advisor to Henry VI. This is the first sympathetic account I have read. It is a fitting companion to "The Heron's Catch." "The Heron's Catch" gives readers a taste of the futility of war, regardless of the righteousness of the cause.
