"The author's advice is based on more than 30 years' personal experience, embracing not only sparrow-hawks and other short-wings, but practically every falcon or hawk used in falconry, from gyr-falcon and saker to merlin and shikra." "First published in 1960 this book has been out of print for six years. In the meantime it has, as was suggested on publication, become a classic and the definitive work on the training of short-winged hawks. It is, therefore, with some pride that we are now able to announce the second edition of A Hawk for the Bush, which has not only been re-set but includes a chapter on health and diseases which has been completely re-written by a veterinary expert as well as a chapter on the breeding of sparrow hawks and other short-wings, but practically every other falcon or hawk used in falconry, from gyr-falcon and saker to merlin and shikra. The sparrow-hawk remains, however, the heroine of this book. Her training and management are dealt with in detail from her first day in the mews till the day when, a fully-trained hawk, she starts killing her own quarry." .
