Pictures by Marc Simont (illustrator). This is a lovely copy of this charming book illustrated with black and white pictures of fun in the snow for bears and mice and squirrels. Book is in clean, tight, fine condition. Jacket is crisp with NO tears. But as is visible in the picture, it looks as though someone may have lightly brushed an eraser over the image on the front panel. 4to. Pictorial paper covered boards. Same picture on book cover as on dust jacket Early vintage edition of this 1949 Caldecott Honor winner. Price on dust jacket flap is $1.75.

HC. B&W illustrations (illustrator). unpaginated This copy comes from the estate of Ursula Nordstrom that I purchased in the late 1990s, and am just getting to catalog. Ursula was the editor in chief of the Harper & Row childrens department from 1940-1973. The first edition of this title has the Harper & Brothers imprint, and later editions Harper & Row. This copy has two rubber stamps "Juvenile Department - Library Copy - Do Not Remove." Ursula obviously brought this early copy home. The differences between this copy, and the true First Edition I have are as follows: $2.50 price on jacket; paper covered boards BUT with a black cloth spine. Most interesting with this copy (1949 on title page) is the bio of Marc Simont on the back dustjacket flap now includes, "winner of the 1956 Caldecott Award." An interesting bibliographic difference. Images happily provided. very good w/good dustjacket (hardcover).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition, Harper and Brothers, 1949, with no additional printings listed. The original dust jacket shows the $1.50 price and Harper and Brothers as the publishers. Scarce 1950 Caldecott Honor book for Marc Simont's illustrations. Clean and tightly bound in bright yellow pictorial boards. Very slight rubbing to spine ends and corners only. The contents are unmarked and show very light signs of having been read. The unclipped dust jacket shows overall dusting, edgewear and several closed tears (less than 1") and one at 4". Still a very nice copy. Insured domestic Priority Mail and international shipping may require added postage charges.
