First Edition
First edition, first printing. Original olive-green cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dustwrapper illustrated with a painting by Paul Trouillebert (1829-1900). Publisher's decorative endpapers. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Spine tips are a touch rubbed, the upper tip a little pushed. A few light spots to the fore-edge. Complete with the neatly price-clipped dustwrapper, with a small nick to the lower outer corner of the front panel. A nice copy. The author's second novel, and the first in a French Trilogy that continues with 'Birdsong' and 'Charlotte Gray'. 'A beautifully controlled and restrained story which catches character, period and place in a subtle but absorbing manner, rather like a prose Vermeer' (Piers Paul Read). Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.

Complete with the equally fine dustwrapper which remains without fading or loss, minimally nicked to upper corners. Not price-clipped (£11.95 net to the front flap). A lovely copy. First Edition
First edition. Octavo. 153 pages. The author's second novel, and arguably even scarcer than his first.Faint dent to front cover. Fine in fine dustwrapper.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 253pp. Olive-brown boards lettered in gold at the spine. One preliminary leaf exhibits some outline browning, presumably the result of an ill-advised bookmark, off-set just a fraction to the adjacent leaf. Ghost of three partially erased stubborn pencilled numerals to the tip of the half-title. Very good indeed with double-spread pictorial non-price-clipped dust wrapper, fine but for some internal spotting. The author's most uncommon second novel, and the first part of his 'France trilogy', followed by 'Birdsong' and 'Charlotte Gray'.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. First Edition. A fine copy in a mylar-protected mint dust wrapper. The only indications that the book is former library copy are two hardly noticeable card removal residue marks on the patterned front free end paper, the pale remains of an asterik mark at the bottom of the ffep, the pale remains of a very small ink mark at the top of the front pastedown and the library name stamp and number at the bottom of the copyright page. The pattern design of the ffep and pastedown are very effective in camouflaging their marks so that they are hardly noticeable. The contents are otherwise fine and the olive green faux cloth boards are also fine except for a miniscule bump at the lower front corner and on the top edge of the back board near the spine. All in all, still a handsome copy of the first printing of an otherwise expensive book at a much lower price and with a perfectly preserved dust wrapper.
