At the time this book was printed, only 35 paintings by Georges De La Tour were known to exist, and he had just had his first full-scale exhibition in France a year before or so. This book (is, was) catalogue raisonné, summary of documents, index of collections, index of names. A complete edition of the paintings. By the time of the 1996 exhibition in Washington, it does not appear that many more had come to light, since it only had 33 paintings by him. Good (overall shelf wear to boards and block edges, warping of boards but interior is clean).

The introductory text deals with his life and achievement and provides a sensitive analysis of his paintings. This is followed by a summary of contemporary documents and a full critical catalogue of 74 pictures, half of them lost and known only from copies or documents. Most of his art did not survive because of the plague and through the 30 years' war. A clean bright copy bound in blue cloth, spine lettering gilt, in a very good pictorial dust jacket with minor wear to corners and spine ends, some toning to rear panel.
