Jahrhundert hinein lediglich als Behinderte thernatisiert, sind die gehorlosen Gebar densprecherinnen und -sprecher seit zweihundert Jahren Gegenstand von Diskursen geworden, die tief ins Selbstverstandnis der modemen Gesellschaft hineinreichen. Auf den seit Diderots 'Brief iiber die Taubstummen' nicht mehr abge rissenen philosophisch-anthropologischen Diskurs als solchen kann hier nicht eingegangen werden. Aber was in unserern Band als lingu istisch-kognitionspsychologische Erkenntis iiber Gebardensprache dis kutiertwird, beruht auf dern Fortgang dieses Diskurses, bei dem zuneh mend nicht physiologische Defizite und Kompensationsleistungen irn Mittelpunkt stehen, sondern die erstaunliche Sprachleistung, die von den Gehorlosen irn Medium der von ihnen benutzten und tradierten Gebardensprache erbracht wird. Vor allern durch Forschungen in den USA ist in den letzten 20 Jahren der volle grarnrnatische Wert dieser ei gentiirnlichen Sprache herausgearbeitet worden. 192 pp. Deutsch.
