In the center of the front cover is a paste down of one of Johnson's paintings - that of a cowboy mounted on a white horse with mountains in the background. The paste down is in perfect condition. Although stamped "Collector's Edition" in the lower right corner of the front cover, the copyright page it is stated "First edition after a limited edition of 350 copies. Oversize book with color and black and white pictures and drawings." Tenney Russell and Remington were much more known than Johnston but Johnson "demonstrated more aesthetic and humanistic concern than his associates. His paintings not only exhibit superb draftsmanship, but also indicate a deep commitment to non-violence, a non-biased depiction of the Indian, and the open expression of romance, pathos and poetry." (from the dust jacket) This is an exceptionally nice copy. Additional postage required.
