Spines very gently sunned, but still a fresh, sharp set. In the publisher's slipcases, which are notoriously fragile and have some partial splits, and flecking to the edges; good, but sound. A great set, with diverse illustrations. Issued over the course of three years, so integral complete sets in uniform condition are less common than odd volumes.

Black cloth board covers with faded gold titles on the spines only, with moderated staining and fading. The front and back panels have a cameo of Holmes inset and the letters V R (Victoria Regina)"bullet pocked" (see images). All edges are speckled. The black slipcases are sturdy with mild rubbing and soiling (mostly on the bottom edge). Slipcase for Volume 3 is torn along the length of the bottom edge but it is still connected at the spine. Pages are clean, no names or markings, not Ex-Library. The volumes contain the complete Sherlock Holmes collection. Volume 1-Sherlock Holmes contains A Study In Scarlet, The Sign of the Four and a collection of 9 stories under The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and a collection of 12 stories under The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Volume 2-The Later Adventures contains 13 stories under The Return of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles. Volume 3- The Final Adventures contains 7 stories under His Last Bow, 14 stories under The Valley of Fear and 12 stories under The Case--Book of Sherlock Holmes. There is only one Heritage Club Sandglass flyer number III and IV laid in volume 3. Book condition: Book condition: Good and slipcase condition: Good. Volume one is very good to nearly fine with mild rubbing to corner tips and spine ends. Volumes two and three are nearly fine. Volume two has the original glassine dust jacket with minor chips to spine ends. Volume three has the original glassine dust jacket with minor loss to the head of the spine panel and a large chip to the lower spine panel. Each volume has a cameo of Holmes inset to the front covers and the V R "bullet marks" to front and rear covers. The paper slipcase of volume one is rubbed and worn along the opening edges with two and three have mild rubbing. The Heritage Club SANDGLASS flyer Number 1:17 laid into the first volume and Number III & IV: 22 laid into the last volume. (22670).
